Usually it is an angel or a star at the top of a Christmas tree but for the McCormick Family in Adelaide South Australia it was a koala, a real live young koala bear!
When the family arrived back from an outing they came inside and noticed that their dog was very interested in the Christmas tree. 16 year old Taylah said "I think the dog went straight to the Christmas tree and was sniffing around and mum thought that was a bit weird". “There was baubles all over the floor … and she looked up and there was a koala in the tree.
“It was pretty tangled up in the lights. It was a fake tree and very old but she still tried eating the leaves off it … I saw her munch down on some but she stopped when she realised it was plastic.”
The McCormicks have a nice Christmas tree with beautiful decorations but it is indeed a fake plastic tree. Even though it is a fake tree it looked real enough to satisfy a koalas climbing and eating needs.
The McCormick made a wise call and phoned up the Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue to report the wild koala in their Christmas tree. Unfortunately the Koala rescue group didn't believe the odd story at first!
Mother Amanda McCormick had trouble convincing them but once she convinced them that her story was legit, the rescue team came and relocated the Christmas Koala. Watch the Koala in action below courtesy of 9 News.
The Christmas Koala has been a huge success on the internet and he is apparently the most popular Koala on Tiktok this Christmas.
